Most people know what a golf cart is and what it does. They’ve seen them in air ports, amusement parks, apartment buildings, retirement homes, and of course golf courses as well. Conversely, most people cannot identify a NEV. This vehicle is very similar to a golf cart in size and speed, but it has one very important difference. NEVS are street legal vehicles and can be driven on the streets with actual cars. This is how they got their name neighborhood electric vehicle, NEV for short. Although they are street legal, they are not street legal on roads with speed limits of 45 miles per hour or more. These vehicles simply cannot go move that quickly.
Rear view mirrors, seat belts, head lights, windshields, break lights, windshield wipers, rear view mirrors, turn signals, and parking breaks must all be present on a NEV for it to be considered street legal. These items are the major differentiators between golf carts and NEVS.
You’ll have to get car insurance on your NEV in order to take it out on the roads. Many people find that both NEV and golf cart insurance is less expensive than traditional car insurance. The reason for this is probably because you won’t be traveling as far in these types of vehicles as you would be in a more traditional vehicle. These cars are fantastic for quick trips, but a 200 mile trip to a vacation spot would be absolutely miserable in this type of vehicle.
The NEV is more likely to be fully enclosed than a golf cart. NEVS are much better at keeping their passengers away from extreme weather conditions when compared to golf carts. There are golf carts with windows and doors, but they are a rarity. Golf carts are fantastic when you need to get in and out of your vehicle quick fast and in a hurry. As the name suggests, golf carts are much better for things like golfing than a NEV is.
If your trying to drive an eco friendly vehicle, both golf cars and NEVS will be something to look at. Gasoline may not even be needed with some of these vehicles since electric batteries can be powerful enough to operate them for miles. The main determining factor when deciding between these two vehicles will be personal to your particular situation. Think about what you need most and make your decision based on that factor.
