The Fiesta is NOT Coming to America!
Where Do You Live?
With the new green movement, it would seem Ford has made the right car in the Fiesta. It is a small vehicle that can fit up to 5 people and achieve astronomical fuel economy numbers. The Fiesta is the ultimate diesel car, too bad its not coming to America.
Despite the Fiesta ECOnetic’s definite potential to compete with the other US manufactures, Ford will only sell the Fiesta in Europe. The America Ford President reportedly stated that there were business reasons as to why they can’t sell it to the US and left it at that.
The top arguement for not selling the Fiesta on US soil is that American’s detest diesel fuel. We ger stateside still have the view that diesels are gross polluters according to Ford.
Diesel cars let out much less toxic particles than a regular gas powered car while getting up to 30% better gas mileage. Any 65 MPG car would be good for America? Mistakenly it is Ford’s belief that the US car buyers won’t buy a diesel. The Fiesta ECOnetic is comparable to European diesels but Ford can’t make a business case for bringing the car to the US.
In addition, the Fiesta is made in Britain and importing the car to the US would cost too much money without a profit and Ford doesn’t believe they can charge enough to make any money. With that said, the main question is: will the US ever embrace diesel fuel to allow automakers and manufactures to achieve sufficient scale to make money on those vehicles? Is Ford aware that Volkswagen has a hugely popular diesel car in the Jetta TDi.The Volkswagen Jetta has the same price as the Fiesta, gets far worse fuel economy, and has been called the green car of the year. Ford is missing out on all this publicity the Jetta is enjoying.
